Digipak research - Girls Aloud

This is the front and back album cover of 'Out of control' by Girls Aloud. The front cover is very simple with a glamourous photo of the girls with a striking white background. The white background enables the photo to stand out. The girls are all wearing bright coloured outifts which anables the cover to work really well. It would successfully catch your eye when browsing through the charts in a store. The way the girls are possitioned is very interesting as they are not in line. Each of them are positioned on a different level giving the image alot more depth.

The back cover of the album uses the same colour scheme as the front cover. I think the font looks really good in all the different sizes. Thye have used the colours of the outfits the girls are wearing on the front when printing the track numbers on the back. Black and white with a slight dash of colour is a very smart way of producing an album cover and makes it look very 'stylish'.

The image displayed above is the inside of the album. The CD once again is very simple however the colours are much less bold than those used on the front and back. I like the simplicity of this CD artwork. People do not neccesserily look at the inside. When buying the CD you can not look at the inside within the shop as they are sealed therefore spending a lot of money and time on the inside would be rather pointless. It is the front and back that advertise and promote your album encouraging people to buy it by attracting their attention, therefore all the artists time and focus could be on constructing the front and back cover. This could be the reason why many CD's do not have a mass amount of artwork printed on them.

Digipak research - Katy Perry

This album cover is by Katy Perry and is called One of The Boys. The album cover does not fit with the title of the album however I believe Katy has done that for a reason. The title explaining she is one of the boys links with one of the songs she has wrote for the album however the front cover consists of her looking very girly, surrounded by girly objects. The album cover is very interesting because its full of color and catches your eye. Katy has made sure she is focused on the front cover for no doubt many reasons. This was Katy's first major album that went public therefore I believe she would want to be on the cover to make sure she was from then onwards going to recognized. The album has a very pop music feel to it because of all the props and colors and the use of the garden. It all seems too 'nicey nice' to be any other music genre.

This is the back cover of Katy Perry's Album 'One of the boys'. When first looking at it, you don't believe that it could be the other side of the previous image, the front cover. The front cover is made up of a picture set in a scene however this image is much more striking as it is just Katy on her own on plain white background. The use of colours and the outfit she is wearing are the complete opposite to the title 'one of the boys'. This makes the title and the images both really interesting and rather puzzling for her audience. The link you can indentify between the two images displayed on the front covers are that they both include the same colour scheme; the pink and the blue. The barcode here is situated at the top where on many album covers I have looked at, you find it most likely to be situated in the right bottom corner. The font is very 'funky' and stands out. This can be linked with the bright and bold personality of Katy Perry!

The image placed above the back cover of the album is the design placed on the CD. I like the design on this CD as it is very simple and displays the vital information needed; The artist and the title of the song. I believe that using the same colours throughout the digipak; The back, front and the CD design, enables people to recognize which artist each part of the album belongs to. I aim to take inspiration from this Album cover when producing my own CD Digipak as I believe for Katy it is a great success.

Analysing a Music Video

Black Eyed Peas Analysis

Commander by Kelly Rowland Analysis
We carried out this task right at the very start of our coursework project. I believe it helped me to understand the concept of a music video and inspired me with ideas to include within my own music video. The two videos I have analyzed; Commander and Pump it up, are very different. I chose two different videos to analyze because I wanted to see the difference within genres and also explore how a solo artist creates a music video to promote their song and in contrast, how a group create their music video to promote their song.

Lip Syncing Task

At the very start of our coursework project we were set the task of creating a short video which included lip syncing. The purpose of this task was to enable us to understand how important lip syncing is within a music video. The task made us realize how difficult it can be to link the movement of a characters mouth up to the lyrics in the song.

We captured the footage and then uploaded it onto Final Cut. Once we had done this we uploaded the song and started working on syncing the song with the movement of the lips.

It was the first time we used Final Cut as during the previous year we produced our work on I Movie. This therefore meant that this was a new experience for us and the task enabled us to learn the skills we needed and practice them before producing our on music video.
